Introduction
I’ve been interested in character creation and narrative for a long time. For as long as I can remember, I have drawn silly little characters and written stories about them. It became much more serious when I was introduced to the work of Daniel Clowes at university. I instantly saw the potential of the comic art form. It became clear that there were advantages over other mediums such as film in terms of storytelling. There is an opportunity to explore ideas in a rich and diverse way. Stories in this form can be loud, subtle, fast or slow. Still images can be very simple or very complex. The reader can explore the story at their own pace and return to it in a way that you can’t do with any other mediums. I constantly enjoy watching dynamics unfold between different groups of characters whether it’s comical, abrasive, or painful. Through very simple lines, it is possible to convey an infinite range of emotion and depth.
With this series of short stories, I’m attempting to push my abilities to the limits. I want to produce some of the best work I’ve done so far! I want to explore ideas and narratives in new and interesting ways in regards to what I’ve mentioned in the above paragraph.
All these stories will be available for free online. Though if you wish to support what I’m doing, there will be physical copies available for sale on Etsy, and of course I’d appreciate people sharing links in all the usual places. But most importantly, I’d love to hear people’s feedback and comments. I hope that folks are able to enjoy these stories on many different levels. Let me know what you think and I’ll do my best to make the stories as fun and as interesting as possible.
Thanks for reading!
Daniel
